Woodland

Our routes have woodland sections. Although most routes will likely be trodden, take care of where you tread! Everything lives. Don't forget your hammock and watch out for deer!

Moorland

Our routes have open moorland sections. You will be exposed to the elements of Dartmoor so be smart! Pack water and make sure you have the right kit - sun cream or waterproofs.

Rocky

Our routes have plenty of rocks for you and your little ones to play and climb on! Be safe and show your mini people how to climb with their hands as well as their feet. Look out for letterboxes!

Swimming

Our routes have spots where you and the clan can paddle, dip, swim and jump depending on where you go. Although most river spots we have are safe and slow, always be cautious of fast currents.

From woodland adventures, natural spring pools, vast open moorland spaces and rock climbing and letterboxing, we have built 35 routes specifically for those outdoorsy families who are looking to explore Dartmoor for real. Testimonials

Honestly brilliant. It's exactly what I've been missing. I could never just find good outdoor routes that have been fully thought about for kids. I can't wait to get access to all these routes.

Sophie

Mum of three.

Most places have a list of 4 or 5 routes that might be possible for my girl to do but reality is there isn't enough information on whether I can take things like buggies or where to have lunch. This does just that

Phillipe

Dad of one.

Seeing a mixture of routes that are kid friendly and cover different types of terrain is extremely useful. I came down from the midlands and didn't know where to go with my two little ones. This nails it.

Jenny

Mum of two.

  • How are Dartmoor Partner’s routes different from other guidebooks?
Our routes are handpicked, written with heart, and created specifically for families who want a genuine adventure on Dartmoor. We don’t repurpose adult routes or expect families to adapt. You’ll find real-world insights, clear directions, extended options for keen roamers, and local amenities guidance woven into every guide.
  • How can I contact Dartmoor Partner?
Email us at hello@dartmoorpartner.co.uk and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
  • What’s the best time of year to visit Dartmoor?
Every season brings something special. Spring bursts with wildflowers, summer gifts us longer days and warm breezes, autumn fires up the moors with bold colours, and winter rolls in with misty magic and a good dusting of snow if you’re lucky.
  • What is Dartmoor Partner?
Dartmoor Partner is your friendly online guide to exploring Dartmoor National Park. We offer 35 carefully selected family-friendly walking routes, making outdoor adventures easy, accessible, and fun.
  • How long are the walks?
They vary. Most base walks are around 3–4km and take about an hour to two, perfect for a day out that includes time to relax, have lunch, and enjoy the surroundings. Extended options stretch up to 6–7km, offering a little extra adventure for those who want to roam further, but still designed as a family day out rather than a continuous looped trek.
  • Where can I find your blog?
Our Journal is packed with Dartmoor inspiration, family walking tips, gear guides, and stories from the trails.
  • Is there wildlife to spot along the way?
Absolutely. Dartmoor is bursting with wildlife wonders if you know where to look. Expect to spot iconic Dartmoor ponies grazing the open moor, buzzards soaring overhead, dippers bobbing along the riverbanks, herds of deer weaving through the woodlands, and woodpeckers tapping in the trees. Keep your eyes peeled for otters in the streams, foxes crossing the paths, and even the elusive cuckoo in spring. Our guides are sprinkled with pointers on what to look out for and when.
  • Why should I join Dartmoor Partner today?

Our 35 routes form the foundation of Dartmoor Partner, but we’re always exploring and creating. Supporter Members will get early access to any new routes or exciting features in future releases. you don’t need fancy kit. Just good shoes, a waterproof layer, water, and a sense of adventure. We share gear tips in our Journal too.
  • Are the routes suitable for buggies or bikes?
Many are. We clearly label buggy-friendly and bike-suitable routes in each guide, with icons to show where balance bikes are welcome.
  • Are dogs allowed on the walks?
We highlight dog-friendly options for each walk and note where livestock might be present. Always check individual route details before you set off. Although we suggest 'safer' areas for letting dogs roam, it's your responsibility as a dog owner to have full control over your four-legged friend. If your dog isn't trained for recall, please keep them on a lead at all times. It's especially important during Dartmoor's lambing and nesting season, which runs from 1st March to 31st July every year.
  • Do I need special map-reading skills?
Nope. Our guides use simple directions, What3Words coordinates, and clear instructions so anyone can find their way without needing advanced navigation skills. Each walk includes a clear step-by-step guide for both the base and extended route, but we also encourage exploration along the way. There are often multiple ways to complete each walk, and ours is just one of many exciting adventures you can take.
