The Sherberton Steps walk:

Our Sherberton Steps walk is short, simple and full of adventure for little legs.

At just 1.8km, it is one of those routes that proves a walk does not need to be long to feel exciting. The ground can be muddy, the path feels a little wild, and the moorland quickly gives you that tucked away Dartmoor feeling, even though the outing stays very manageable. Once you arrive, its like you've found a brand new special place!

The real magic here is the stepping stones. They feel hidden, peaceful and just adventurous enough to make children feel like they have discovered something brilliant. There are trees, water, views across the West Dart Valley and plenty of that quiet, slightly secret Dartmoor charm.

This is a lovely choice for families who want a doddle with a bit of character. It is short enough to keep things easy, but still has mud, water, paddling potential and a proper little “we found it” moment at the heart of the walk.

After the walk, head to Two Bridges Hotel, one of our Dartmoor Partner hospitality partners.

Two Bridges is one of Dartmoor’s most iconic hotel stops, sitting beside the West Dart River and surrounded by open moorland. It feels properly rooted in the landscape, with river views, cosy lounges, traditional character and that warm Devon welcome you want after a muddy little wander.

Food is a big part of the Two Bridges experience too. It works well for relaxed lunches, cream teas, evening meals, drinks or even an overnight stay if you want to make more of this part of Dartmoor.

This pairing is especially good if you want the walk to stay short and playful, but the stop afterwards to feel classic and comfortable. Think stepping stones, muddy boots, tired little explorers and then somewhere calm to sit down for food, tea, cake or a drink by the river.
