The Rock Inn

The Rock Inn sits at Haytor Vale, close to one of Dartmoor’s most recognisable landscapes, with Haytor Rocks, Haytor Quarry and open moorland routes all nearby. It is a brilliant east Dartmoor base for families, walkers and visitors who want a proper pub stop woven into a day on the moor.

The inn has a long standing reputation for food, atmosphere and comfort, with a restaurant built around intimate, friendly dining spaces throughout the building. It is open to both residents and non residents, making it a useful choice whether you are staying nearby, planning lunch after a walk, or looking for a relaxed evening meal after a day exploring Dartmoor.

Food is prepared by the resident chefs, with imaginative and varied dishes using freshly caught fish, locally sourced meat and game, and locally grown produce wherever possible. The Rock Inn has also held 2 AA Rosettes since 2016, so it brings a little extra polish without losing that cosy Dartmoor pub feel.

For Dartmoor Partner families, it works especially well with Haytor days, quarry exploring, granite scrambling and classic moorland views. After a walk full of wide skies, big rocks and breezy cheeks, The Rock Inn gives the day a proper sit down finish.

Food service times

• Lunch is usually served 12pm to 2pm Monday to Saturday, and 12pm to 3pm on Sunday.

• Dinner is usually served 6:30pm to 8:30pm Monday to Saturday.

• The restaurant is closed on Sunday night.

The Rock Inn can get very busy, so booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially if you are planning your walk around lunch or dinner.
